Quick question, if I have the Nokia 6086 HotSpot@home phone and I am getting a good connection at home, is there any advantage personally to getting it running over wifi here? Battery power savings or call quality? Thanks!

Well, if you don't have the add-on, the only benefit is increased coverage. With the H@H addon, you also get the benefit of unlimited calling when connected to a Hotspot or WiFi connection. If you need the coverage, just search for Wi-Fi networks with your phone. If you need the unlimited minutes as well, do the same, but make sure you have the H@H add-on to your account so minutes used aren't counted against your alloted amount. Hope this helps

Data on the 6086 is noticeably faster on wifi than without it. I was surprised at the increase. The difference is less noticeable on the t409.

Doesn't the 6086 revert to EDGE when accessing the browser, and the WiFi simply for voice.coverage?

YouTube - Demo of T-Mobile HotSpot @Home (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Td7eaKnAtLo)

Yep, when PhoneScoop demoed it they show that it reverts back to EDGE for data. They tested using a Nokia 6086.

Phone Scoop's statement about the phone using EDGE for data was based on the G that pops up on screen when you open the browser. It has been disputed on this site, as well as HoFo. The phone actually does use wifi for data, text messages, and picture messages. I did a significant amount of testing when I first got my 6086.

Here is a link to my thread on this forum about wifi data and my 6086: http://www.t-mobilesignal.com/forum/f236/nokia-6086-data-wifi-485.html I posted my mspeed test results there.

I'm gonna have to do some tests as well then, it's odd that even T-Mobile would say that as well. This is definitely interesting though, and something to ponder about on future H@H handsets....

When I was checking up on this, I also found individuals that were able to use data on wifi when they were in no coverage areas (not even roaming was available. Let us know how your tests work out. :) I think it is fun just playing with the wifi stuff. A couple of years ago, I never thought we would have wifi cellphones!
