View Full Version : AT&T Stops Pretending To Be The Network With The "Fewest Dropped Calls"
AT&T is no longer claiming to be the network with the "fewest dropped calls," according to a company insider. The assertion was widely panned as a lie:
The ad campaign, which launched last March, was based on a Telephia report that actually noted AT&T Wireless (then Cingular) did not have the most reliable network in New York, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. A recent JD Power report gives that honor to T-Mobile in most markets. Similarly, a report from Consumer Reports placed Cingular/AT&T at the bottom of their rankings for reliability and satisfaction.AT&T will instead boast that they have: "more bars in more places."

And it took consumers and the BBB this long to figure that out....damn...
Following a Better Business Bureau investigation into Cingular's (now AT&T's) "fewest dropped calls" ad campaign and a protracted legal fight with Sprint over the issue, AT&T is reportedly dropping its claim, according to an employee.
Turns out, the assertion was never really true, and was based on only a small part of a larger Telephia report. - From DSLReports

I am getting sick and tired of seeing the stupid airplane commercial saying "Your world is wireless. AT&T is wireless. More bars in more places. Cingular is now the new AT&T. AT&T, your world delivered." They play that thing like 3 times back to back in the morning and at night.

I think they are just trying to get the word out, that Cingular is still the same company, only with a different name. It still surprises me after all the commercials and ads that are played out on a daily basis when I hear people still saying Cingular.

Honestly, I think the "Your world is wireless. AT&T is wireless" is one of the stupidest quotes I have ever heard in a commercial...just my opinion, but T-mobile, Sprint, Alltel, Verizon...everyone else is wireless...thats not a claim...thats just a stupid thing to say before they say that Cingular is the new AT&T which just about everyone knows now.

One of the reps. in the at&t store told me that one of the reasons why Cingular changed over to the name at&t was because of the fact that the name at&t was known around the world more than the name Cingular. Which is why at&t uses the phrase at&t "your world delivered." at&t like Verizon uses 2 other wireless services like phone and Internet. I believe that is why they are emphasizing the wireless phrase.

I think that is funny. They changed from ATT to Cingular in the first place because of the bad rep ATT Wireless had before Cingular took over. Now, going to ATT Mobility, they are trying to create this new image, when in reality, the entire thing is still the same, Blue/Orange/ATTWireless/Cingular/ATT Mobility=Same no matter how you slice it. Talk about an identity crisis....

If I remember correctly part of the ATTWS sale was NOT the ATT brand.
Cingular was allowed to use ATT in transition only.
Although ATTWS had it's problems ( I never did with their customer service or signal here in FL) it's rap was not as bad as perceived.
Cingular then destroyed the rep ATTWS had here in FL. I had 2 accounts with them to get a total of 5 on family plan (attws family plan max = 4) and all 5 phones quickly had service degrade after cingular take over. With 5 phones, 3 different models not a phone issue! I gave them 6 months to straighten the mess up and they used dropped calls and inability to access network as "Cingular Blue" as a lever to try to sell me a 2 year contract w/cingular. Smartest move I ever made in communications was to drop them and go back with tmobile! I'm not the only one to suffer under the "cingular blue" treatment, most of the people I know w/ATTWS went orange and did find an improvement. Even with my corp discount, their prices couldn't compare to what tmob offered.

That's pretty close. The closing map leaves out Verizon, which may wind up part of it all again.
I have relatives in Verizon landline territory and they don't seem much happier with them than the old ma bell, but I used to live on the gulf coast and had GTE and they were awesome. I wonder if Verizon ruined GTE land line like cingular ruined ATTWS.

How did Cingular ruin at&t? If anything their service has been much improved since the merger of the two companies. The way I see it, the old at&t wireless had the worst reputation, and now that Cingular has taken them over, their combined service is a lot better, both customer service, and coverage wise.

They always were orange Kin. When Cingular (orange) bought out at&t (blue) there was a massive push to convert all the old AT&T Wireless customers off of the blue plans and over to Cingular's orange plans. This hasn't changed as there are still many of old at&t customers out there on those old blue plans.

Oh i know, i'm talking about the colors they use for wireless. Their new brochures are blue, kiosks and stores are turning blue from orange. What ATT wants to do now, is go back to orange. I meant the actual color and branding of stores and ATTs wireless division, not their customers. Guess i shoulda been more specific!

somehow they don't know the importance of name/logo/color consistency
VZW and T-Mobile don't change the name/color yet (the former since ????, while the latter after renaming from Voicestream)
when some mention "megneta", T-Mobile, we all know it's T-Mobile, not Voicestream, not Omnipoint, not Powertel, not Aerial
same thing as Verizon Wireless, (in NYC) "red", "big V", we all know it's Verizon Wireless, not NYNEX, not Bell Atlantic
but now what color and name represent at&t?!
I am confused, all I can say is blue or orange
Sprint is better, they changed to yellow after acquired Nextel (I heard that Earthlink/Helio is also a part of Sprint)

I had Verizon as my postpaid line, but recently ported my number to at&t's PYP. And I keep my TMobile To Go account open because not only do I still have $70.00 left on the account, but it only costs me $9.22/year to maintain it. And besides that, the first 6 digits of the number are the same as my at&t number, so I don't want to give it up. :)

I just switched back att...T-mobile for me in the Chicagoland area has been "ok" but not up to par. As I mentioned in another thread, I was deciding between att and Verizon and a little glimpse at uscc though their phone selection is sorry. I went with Verizon yesterday, came home and no go in my house. A year ago while I was employed by them I experienced the same type of service, err lack of I should say. Anyways, that forced me to return promptly and moved back to att who has been for at the least the past 4 years, the superstar of my neighborhood.
So while we all may be T-mobile fanatics here, myself included with at least regards to offerings as I am no longer employed or a customer there are alternatives!
From now on...I'll just play devils advocate!

You know it all boils down to the notion that I have just noticed a definite slide in T-mobile service in this area. Is it unbearable? No. Is it so bad that I would be unable to survive with it? Not at all. This choice is based more on the fact that without my employee line I need to move up so high in rate plans to offset the lack of m2m with just about everyone. Its gotta be Verizon or Att just for a rate plan to make sense for me. I could deal with 2100 minutes between me and my mom on att whom I have piggybacked onto me and made myself the main line.
Would I ever reconsider T-mobile? Of course, but for now this is the best choice, financially . Why pay 30 dollars a month more for a plan when I don't have too.
