Facebook 1.7 for Blackberry already available

The new Facebook 1.7 for BlackBerry is available to download it for free. The update isn’t live on App World just yet, but you can download it by visiting blackberry.com/facebook or m.facebook.com on your browser or Blackberry application world.

What is new?

News Feed Support – The ability to set the News Feed as the landing page
News Feed Filters – The ability to toggle between ‘News Feed, Status Updates, Photos & Links’
Caching Improvements – The application uses the device memory more efficiently
Feed Pre-fetching – The user will not be required to wait while their Facebook Feeds are updated
View Profile Menu Option – Clients may easily view their own profile by selecting ‘View my Profile’ from the menu

Will T-Mobile Dash 3G get WiMo 6.5?

Just today Microsoft has announced the availability of the new Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade to some WM phones in the States. The list? very short but the way. HTC Dash, Snap and Touch Pro2, and the Samsung Jack and Epix.. hold on?… did they day HTC Dash 3G.? Seams the T-Mobile Dash 3G will get the upgrade soon, after the other carriers will get it first.

Only phone that run WM 6.1 can upgrade to 6.5. Microsoft says more devices may be added at a later date. HTC is stepping up in the biggest way, with the HTC Pure, HTC Imagio, HTC Ozone and HTC Tilt 2 arriving today or in the next couple of weeks. Samsung’s also warming to WinMo with the Samsung Intrepid. As for carriers, all the majors except T-Mobile are on this bandwagon, so you’ll have AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless to choose from, for now…

Probably, the HTC Touch Pro 2 for T-Mobile will get the upgrade.. cross your fingers guys!.

BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 Available for Download Tomorrow

RIM has just announced that the latest build of Blackberry Messenger version 5.0 will be available tomorrow, October 7th! BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 will feature enhanced SMS, avatars, large media file transfers, a bar-code identity feature, and more.

Features:

Enhanced SMS -Allows for a conversational chat-like user experience with a single contact list for the most personal mobile-to-mobile communications
- Note: BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0 and later is required for the SMS functionality.
Avatars - Users can choose a picture from the BlackBerry Smartphone gallery and save it as their personal avatar, which will be seen by their contacts. They can also view other avatars in the contact list and zoom in on the avatars of contacts participating in a conversation by selecting “View participants.”
Large Media File Transfer - Users can send/receive large file transfers up to 6 megabytes for pictures, files and audio.

Samsung U450, aka Intensity also coming to Altell

The new Samsung Intensity U450 is gonna be available for Verizon Wireless on Sept 8th according with BGR. But seams that the new touch screen phone is not gonna be available only for Verizon. According with Bluetooth.org, the Samsung SCH-U450 will be available also to Altell.

There is not name for this U450. Probably it will pick the same name, you know, Altell is part of Verizon now.

The news Samsung Intensity from Verizon features a full a sliding QWERTY keypad, 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR. We believe the features for the U450 for Altell will be the same. Not dates for launch are available yet.

FCC leaked a new Motorola CDMA

Today, FCC leaked not one but actually 2 CDMA phones from Motorola. The name is unknown but this new Motorola will have 2 version. One (M1) only with 800 and 1900 CDMA, probably hitting Sprint or Verizon/Alltel. The M2, besides the 800 and 1900, will carry the 1700 AWS for Cricket or MetroPCS.

The keypad of this phone looks so familiar. For the pictures, it can be a flip CDMA version of the Motorola ZN5. I doubt this phone will come with a 5MP camera. The new Motorola also has touch sensitive keys for playing music and Bluetooth.

Alltel Starting EVDO Rev. A Rollout

Alltel users can finally stop envying Verizon users (or soon to be fellow users) and Sprint as Alltel is finally rolling out EVDO Rev. A in certain areas. Verizon Wireless has had their networks at Rev. A for quite some time as well as most of Sprint’s network being Rev. A. The list of markets hasn’t been fully released but includes Charlotte, New Orleans, Phoenix, and Tampa.

For those who may not be familiar with EVDO Rev. 0 and Rev. A, here’s a quick rundown. EVDO Rev. 0 has average download speeds between 400-700Kbps with bursts of 2.4Mbps (which is rarely seen) in addition to low upload speeds with an average of 50-70Kbps and bursts up to 144Kbps. Rev. A, on the other hand, boosts everything with an average download speed between 600Kbps to 1.4Mbps and bursts up to 3.1Mbps and average uploads go up to 500-800Kbps with bursts to 1.8Mbps. Also as a side benefit is lower latency for better VoIP usage.

As a user of EVDO Rev. A (on Verizon’s network), I can attest to the fact that Alltel users will greatly appreciate this boost given that they can actually use it. Owners of the UTStarcomm UM150, Huawei EC228, HTC PPC6800, and HTC Touch will be able to benefit from the new upgrades through a simple software upgrade. An additional number thrown in is 82 percent: the number of potential customers that will have EVDO coverage compared to 76 percent now.
